Fans flock to story on Jock

For a handful of games this year, Tigers fans got to see big Jock Perry in action before he jetted off to the United States to play College Basketball.

Tigers fans dearly wished he could of stayed with the Tigers for the entire SEABL season as the Tigers were exposed for height after his departure and there’s now a big desire for a Jock Perry like player for season 2017, His impact in his matches was such that he was in SEABL’s Top 10 for Rebounds with an average of nearly nine rebounds per game.

Now he is at SMC in the US and will soon be watched by the NBA scouts which is a feat that has gotten the attention of Channel Nine and Basketball fans as the news service filed a story on him before Jock left Australia.

Rebuilding Our Melbourne Tigers post on the story has been seen by over 6,000 people and it continues to rise.

St Mary’s knows all about Australian Basketball as the St Mary’s Gaels blog has reported on former SMC players in SEABL as well as stories on Kate Gaze and others such as former NBL Tigers Patty Mills, Lucas Walker and Daniel Kickert.

SEABL players who have been to SMC include Garrett Jackson, Ben Allen, Desmond Simmons, Rob Jones (former Tigers SEABL player) and Lucas Walker.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Jock fares in his first season at SMC for sure.

State of the Tigers

There is a feeling of great excitement among Melbourne Tigers fans as the team has been flexing it’s muscles in recent weeks with a steady stream of announcements and developments making their way into fans hands with some of those announcements and developments listed below.

Daryl Corletto and Rhys Carter are both Tigers
– Mark Bradkte is working with the Tigers
Tigers girls teams are doing well
Memberships are being snapped up
– All Tigers teams are hard at work with training
Tigers Facebook page likes are over 400
–  Tigers Twitter account is in full operation
Tigers are now on Instagram

Some Basketball fans in the UK are rudely celebrating Daryl Corletto signing with the Tigers (which comes into effect after the BBL season) but it is their loss as Daryl has been leading scoring in the British Basketball League and his return to Melbourne is to a place where he is loved and respected by the fans.

The Tigers are now everywhere on social media and this will benefit fans who can get their Tigers fix from Facebook to Twitter and stay informed in the process as last year news was hard to come by.

There has never been a better time to be a Tigers fan or rediscover the passion of being a Tigers fans, with the NBL season winding down there is no reason why numbers of fans should not increase across the board and that is nothing less than a good thing for the team.

Rise of the Tigers

Just over a week ago, Public information on the Tigers SEABL plans was as barren as a Desert for there was no news of who is going to wear the famous club colours this coming SEABL season.

Suddenly Tigers GM Nigel Purchase went on to SEN as he usually does to talk Basketball with Kevin Bartlett and Nigel gave Tigers fans the names of first two Tigers SEABL heroes one of them had the familiar name of Daryl Corletto.

Yes Daryl is coming back from the UK and home to the Tigers and fans response was positive as he was a well respected NBL Tiger, make sure Tigers fans you give him a great welcome by tweeting him at @DarylCorletto.

The announcement of Daryl’s return to Australia’s sporting capital was swiftly followed by news of the signings of well regarded players Jock Perry, Patrick Bines and Bailey Griffiths followed by further big news that Sydney Kings star Rhys Carter put his signature to signing papers and is a Tiger too.

That’s not all the news from the Tigers, the Tigers have a Twitter account for the Tigers Senior Program as well as news of a website coming for the Seniors and membership details will be unveiled which will satisfy fans as demand for memberships grow by the day.

January is almost over Tigers fans and that means we only have to get through February and March then it is Tigers time in Melbourne and what a sight that will be.

Go Tigers!

Tigers hunt for Slogan

The Melbourne Tigers are looking for a slogan and you the Basketball fan have the opportunity to create it and forever be part of history.

It’s the 85th year of the Tigers existence and with the team now on the verge of playing SEABL Basketball the time is right to come up with something that fits with how the Tigers have stood and how they are standing now.

Already there is suggestions such as ‘Our City, Our Jungle’, ‘The Return of the Roar’ and ‘Hear Us Roar!!!’ and there is no doubt there is more out there for you the reader to make.

Email your suggestions to mark@melbournebasketball.com.au as soon as possible for the Tigers to consider your suggestions.

‘Homicide’ to Tigers?

Former Melbourne Tiger Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams wants to play in SEABL this year and fans all over the league are wanting their team to get his services for the 2016 season.

Tigers fans are among those wanting ‘Homicide’ to come home as the former NBL and other leagues around the world star was a Tigers player during the spinoff’s (SEABL side is the mother/father team) club time in the NBL.

There is still no word on who is on the Tigers roster but there is no need to panic as the season does not start until April but some fans believe the earlier a roster is put together the longer they will gel together as a team.

WAMTF will continue to report on the recruiting situation as it unfolds.

WAMTF breaks 2014 record

It is with delight to say that over the weekend this blog has beaten it’s 2014 total of hits.

Last year we received 2,084 hits and when all crunched down comes to 5.7 hits per day and now this year we’ve received 2,087 hits and that could increase by a dozen or so before the year is out.

What a year we’ve had, we were going from trying to keep up with Melbourne United in the minds of Basketball fans to believing we can do so much without United to looking at entering SEABL to finally being in SEABL.

Rebuilding Our Melbourne Tigers is a great Tigers fan community and we hope it grows over the next year as we look at the Tigers from Past, Present and Future.

Melbourne Tigers Basketball Facebook page has 280 likes as we write this and there is no doubt it is going to grow, fans who just want to know what the Tigers are doing should like this page for they’ll always be in the know.

Next year will be very exciting, the Men’s senior team is in SEABL, the Juniors will be in VJBL and the Ladies as well as youth teams are in BigV until a SEABL team can be setup for the Ladies.

There is so much for Tigers fans to learn over the next couple of months, there is opposition to know about, signings to speculate about and then greet, memberships to save for, memberships to purchase and much more.

2016 is the year the Melbourne Tigers are back in big time business, we’re ready and we hope you are too.

Go Tigers!

Tigers Girls Got Game x2

The Melbourne Tigers 16.3 Girls are on a roll with two players winning week 4 and week 5 of ‘Girls Got Game’.

Tigers fans helped propel Georgie Nolan and Eliza Browne to their wins and Tigers fans couldn’t be happier, there is no doubt that the girls deserve the wins for their efforts in the sport.

It should be noted that the six other nominees from other clubs should be congratulated on earning nominations and there is no doubt that they were worthy of their nominations.

So congratulations to Eliza Browne and Georgie Nolan on their successes and may they continue to have a wonderful season playing the game they enjoy.

In further Tigers news, the official Melbourne Tigers page is up to 285 likes and should be arriving at 300 like mark soon and hopefully 2016 will be the year it reaches the thousands.

Go Tigers!

A ring of history?

In 1989, Andrew Gaze joined Seton Hall University and the team went on to record a 31-7 record which taken them all the way to the NCAA title game.

Seton Hall narrowly lost in overtime to Michigan but the year was filled with highlights for Andrew Gaze particularly the Final Four game against Duke when in 15 minutes Gaze hit some of his trademark threes and put massive defensive pressure on Duke University.

The other day we were watching on YouTube the Seton Hall vs Duke game and whilst looking up more information a ring was found on sale and this ring is Seton Hall ring from 1989 and it has ‘Gaze’ on the side.

Is it just a sample? a replica? or is it the real deal being put on offer for $1,350 which is pretty cheap considering whose it is.

Whilst we try figure out what this is, enjoy the video of the 1989 Final Four match between Seton Hall and Duke, skip to the 55 minute mark to see Andrew Gaze turn the game in Seton Hall’s favor.

Tigers wrap up 2015

Melbourne Tigers Junior Girls over the weekend wrapped up their 2015 by notching up several wins and ending training sessions with a hard workout.

The 14.3’s to 14.7’s all recorded wins as did the 18.3’s who defeated McKinnon.

Tigers legend Warrick Giddey played Santa Claus for his Tigers squad and other Tigers worked hard at MSAC today including several juniors participating in tug of war.

Tigers fans should be really pleased by the efforts made by Tigers teams from the juniors to the seniors, Tigers staff have also put so much in and should also receive many thanks.

These juniors are the ones who inspired the likes of Andrew Gaze and Nigel Purchase to aim to get the club to SEABL and in the future many juniors will get the chance to be a Tiger in SEABL ranks.

270 people now ‘like’ the Melbourne Tigers FB page and it continues to grow each day and Tigers 16.3’s player Eliza Browne hopes to emulate follow 16.3 player Georgie Nolan by winning Week 5 of Girls Got Game, Tigers fans can vote for Eliza here.

WAMTF hopes that this is not the last Tigers story for 2015 as we are still awaiting SEABL signings but if it is the final news piece for 2015 we would like to thank all Tigers fans who have read our 60+ stories this year, we’ve notched just over 2000 hits this year similar to last year and so we are humbled and grateful for your time this year.
